A shocking double murder has rocked the quiet streets of Bishop Lavis in the Western Cape, leaving residents in a state of fear and grief.
Two young men, aged 18 and 22, were gaily going about their morning when their lives were brutally cut short in a hail of gunfire on Buttercup Street, Kalksteenfontein.

The incident occurred at around 6:15 am on Monday, sending shockwaves through the community. Police were quick to respond, with Bishop Lavis police registering two counts of murder following the shooting.
According to police spokesperson Captain F.C Van Wyk, the victims sustained multiple gunshot wounds to their upper bodies, indicating a deliberate and brutal attack.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with three unidentified males walking up to the pair and randomly firing several shots before fleeing the scene. “It’s like they were just waiting for them, just waiting to kill them,” a shaken eyewitness said.
The motive behind the attack is believed to be gang-related, although police are keeping an open mind as investigations continue. “The motive for the attack is believed to be gang-related; however, this forms part of the investigation,” Van Wyk said.
Crime scene experts are combing the area for clues, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.The community is still reeling from the news, with many describing the victims as innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire of gang violence.
“This is a senseless loss of life,” said a local resident. “Our hearts go out to the families of the victims. We need to come together to support each other and work towards a safer community.”
The double murder is the latest in a string of violent incidents in the Western Cape, highlighting the need for urgent action to address gang violence and gun crime. The police have vowed to leave no stone unturned in their investigation, and the community is rallying behind them.
